SYLHET: Over one hundred local weapons have been recovered from different residential halls of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) here on Saturday.
The arms include 20-22 machetes, 18-20 knives and 35-40 sticks.
Sources told banglanews that the lethal weapons were recovered during a police raid, led by executive magistrate Kamal Hossain, round the day.
Jalalabad Thana Officer-in-Charge Akhter Hossain said that the university authorities were also present during the drive.
Earlier, the SUST syndicate closed the university sine die on November 20 last year following a clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League. The clash left a BCL man dead and 25 injured, including the university proctor.
However, SUST is expected to be reopened on January 18.
The syndicate, in a meeting held on January 10, decided to raid all the residential halls before resuming academic activities.
It, moreover, imposed ban on student politics on campus.
