JCD calls indefinite strike at DU from Sunday

DHAKA: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, on Saturday announced an indefinite strike at Dhaka University (DU) from Sunday, demanding the DU vice chancellor’s (VC) resignation and coexistence on the campus.

The announcement came from a press statement issued by JCD central unit president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary M Akramul Islam at noon.

“There is no coexistence among student wings of the political parties at the university. No results come out even though the JCD had given ultimatum for several times,” it added.

A party-loyal VC is one of the main factors for not ensuring political coexistence of students in the university, the statement added.

The statement also alleged that he is busy in giving protection to the misdeeds of Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, in stead of ensuring rights of all students.

The statement also added all students have equal rights to stay at the university. For this reason, the strike would continue until the rights of students are met, it added.
