TANGAIL: The authorities on Wednesday closed the Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) for an indefinite period after one of its students was killed in a clash that broke out over establishing supremacy on the campus.
The decision was taken from an emergency meeting around 8pm. The students were asked to leave the campus within 10am Thursday.
Earlier in the day, two groups of MBSTU unit of Chhatra League locked into a clash, leaving three students injured critically.
Of the three, one was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar where he died around 6:30pm.
The deceased was identified as Abu Sadat Khaled Mosharraf, a student from Criminology and Police Science Department, and son of one Shahidul Islam, hailed from Mujatti village under Muktagachha Thana of Mymensingh.
The two other injured were admitted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka.
Mosharraf used to introduce himself as president of MBSTU unit Chhatra League (BCL) though there was no committee of BCL here.
Students said there was a long standing clash between the groups of Mosharraf and Monir.
In the afternoon of Wednesday, the two groups locked into a clash, leaving three including Mosharraf injured.
Additional police force was deployed on the campus area to thwart untoward situation.
MBSTU proctor Dr Khalemul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
