DHAKA: A total of Tk 31,618 crore has been proposed for the education sector, including primary and mass education, in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2015-16.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the proposal before the parliament while placing the budget on Thursday afternoon.
In his budget speech, he said, “We are placing special emphasis on ensuring quality primary education and planning to expand primary education up to class VIII by 2018.”
“In order to retain the benefit of hundred percent enrollment, we have taken up a school feeding program for about 33 lakh 90 thousand children in all primary schools of 93 upazilas,” the minsiter added.
He also said that a project of Tk 924 crore is being implemented to establish one technical school in each of 100 upazilas.
From the total amount of Tk 31,618 crose, Ministry of Education will get TK 18,447 crore and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education would get Tk 13,056 crore.
