DHAKA: The Supreme Court fixed August 20 (Thursday) for hearing on an appeal filed against the High Court order that rejected the writ petition against Dhaka University (DU) decision not to allow students to sit for second time admission test.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division (AD), headed by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, passed the deferment order asking the petitioners to file regular appeal by the day.
Earlier on August 6, the apex court deferred the date of hearing as petitioners did not file regular appeal.
Advocate Subrato Chowdhury move for the petitioners while Advocate ASM Mejbah Uddin stood for DU.
On July 8, the High Court rejected the writ petition against the decision of the DU authorities not to allow students to sit for the varsity’s entry test for the second time.
Later, the petitioners filed an appeal against the HC order that rejected the writ petition against the decision of the DU authorities.
On October 15, 2014, the DU authorities decided to allow only fresh successful HSC examinees to appear at its admission tests
Later, 16 guardians filed the writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the decision.
In response to the writ petition, the HC issued a rule asking the DU authorities to explain why the decision not to allow students to sit for the entry test for the second time would not be declared illegal.
