DHAKA: Primary and Mass Education minister Mostafizur Rahman disclosed that currently the literacy rate of Bangladesh is 61 percent.
He made the disclosure at a press briefing at secretariat in city Sunday noon.
Moreover, at least 78 lakh students got stipend which will be increased till 1.30 crore, the minister announced.
Beside this, the incumbent government has planned to run ‘Basic Literacy Project’ through Informal Education Bureau to literate 45 lakh people aged between 15 and 45 in the country, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the ‘International Literacy Day’ program in city’s Osmanni Memorial Auditorium on September 8.
Nazrul Islam Babu MP and primary and mass education secretary Mezbahul Alam, among others, were present at the briefing.
