DHAKA: The Dhaka University website is yet to be restored even two days after it was hacked by Cyber 71.
At 12:53pm Saturday, when viewers click the DU website www.du.ac.bd it was seen displaying ‘Under Maintenance, Sorry for the inconvenience.’
The site will be up September 12 noon, it added.
It also informed that for undergraduate admission visit admission.eis.du.ac.bd
However, the university filed a case against hacker group ‘cyber 71’ One of the admins of the hacker group has been identified.
But police are yet to arrest anybody as details about the admin could not be available.
DU proctor and Shahbagh thana sources confirmed the matter.
Shahbagh Thana Officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique said “People who hacked the DU website have been identified. We are trying to arrest them.”
Detective Branch of police will investigate the case from Saturday, he added.
DU acting proctor Amjad Ali also confirmed that as per information provided by students, the hacker has been identified. But the mischief is yet to be arrested as his details could not found.
A group of hackers has taken down the Website of Dhaka University on Thursday, protesting its silence over imposing 7.5 percent VAT on private universities.
Hackers posted their comment on Dhaka University webpage, “The success in the protests of ’52 and ’69 came with the help of the very students of Dhaka University. Why is DU quiet when this VAT is turning education into a business? Who has given anyone the right to shoot students? This is not just a shameful incident for private university students, but a shameful matter for all of Bangladesh. Bangladesh must rise up to make sure education does not turn into business. #NoVatOnEducation.”
