DHAKA: North South University (NSU) and Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) authorities on Sunday declared their respective universities closed.
NSU authorities said that the university will remain close till September 15 while IUB authorities declared the university’s closure till September 26.
The declaration came following the protest movement of the private universities students against the government’s decision on imposition of value added tax (VAT) on tuition fee.
Earlier this morning, students of the aforesaid universities blocked roads in front of Bashundhara Residential Area in Baridhara to press their demand of cancellation of the VAT.
However, the students continued their protest amid the declaration of closure this afternoon.
