DHAKA: The High Court (HC) issued a contempt of court rule against primary and mass education ministry (MoPME) secretary Mezbah-ul-Alam and six other officers for ignoring the court order in appointing the deprived assistant teachers in Registered Primary Schools.
A joint HC bench of justices Farah Mahbub and Kazi M Izarul Haque Akhand passed the order after the hearing. Advocate MM Nuruzzaman moved for the plaintiff.
According to the statement, on April 11 in 2010 the ministry issued a circular for assistant teacher post for which as many as 42,611 candidates were selected based on upazila quota.
But, only 10,000 had been appointed based on union quota, following the change made by the ministry later.
A total of 10 selected and deprived candidates of Mahadebpur upazila in Naogaon district filed a writ challenging the ‘union quota’ and demanded their appointment on September 15.
In response of the writ, the HC ordered to appoint the deprived, but the ministry officers appealed against the order.
However, the Appellate Division dismissed the appeal and reinstalled the order.
