DHAKA: Education ministry officials reached in a consensus about ensuring 40 percent quotas for admission in Class-I for children of dwellers of areas adjacent to government schools concerned.
The proposal, however, will be finalized by education minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
Education ministry joint secretary (secondary) Ruhi Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews after a meeting, held at the secretariat, over the admission in Class-I.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) came out with the proposal after directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
Ruhi Rahman further said a government school has to take admission of 40 percent students from the area adjacent to it.
Students for rest seats will be admitted from other areas, the joint secretary added.
Ruhi also informed banglanews that students at the district level also have to be admitted through online application from this year.
DSHE director general Professor Fahima Khatun and other high-ups of the ministry, among others, attended the meeting.
