Book festival on Jan 2

DHAKA: Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that books of different classes will be distributed to the students across the country on January 2.

He told the media that the ‘book festival’ will be celebrated across the country on January 2 as January 1 is a holiday.

The minister made surprise visits to several printing presses to look after the progress of printing and quality of books in city’s Matuail area on Sunday (December 13).

Printing of books for all classes will be complete by the given time and sending them to the schools will also be possible before January 2, he added.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) chairman Narayan Chandra Pal and other ministry high-ups were also present during the visit.

Education ministry senior information official Muhammad Saifullah said that over 34-crore books will be distributed to the students this year.

However, the government has been celebrating ‘book festival’ on January 1 for several years.
