DHAKA: The logo of Science Olympiad-2016 was unveiled at the office of ATN Bangla, a Bangla digital cable television channel, in city Monday with the view to encourage students to study science.

First Security Bank Ltd managing director Syed Wasiq Mohammad Ali, additional managing director Qazi Osman Ali, ATN Bangla chairman Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences president Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, English daily New Age’s editorial board chairman ASM Shahidullah Khan, online news portal banglanews24.com’s head of news Mahmood Menon Khan, Bangla daily Samakal general manager (marketing) Abul Khair Chowdhury, Radio Bhumi producer Ahmed Imtiaz Sabbir, among others, were present at the program.

Praising the initiative, Dr Mahfuzur Rahman said this Olympiad will play a significant role in encouraging students studying sciences.

Mentioning that there is no alternative of research, he further said new inventions will come to light through the Olympiad and as one of the media partners we will disseminate the news at home and abroad.

Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed said the academy of sciences has been working and sending students in several programs abroad despite its financial crunch.

He also lamented for not getting patrons for organizing Science Olympiad.

Banglanews24.com’s head of news Mahmood Menon Khan said the new journey has already started. He also talked about publishing new inventions in the pages of banglanews24.com, which is also a media partner of the upcoming Olympiad.

He also wished a grand success of the event.

However, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences has organized Science Olympiad with First Security Bank Ltd as its title sponsor.

Banglanews24.com, ATN Bangla, New Age, Samakal and Radio Bhumi are the media partners.

The Olympiad will be held at 30 centers in eight divisions of the country. About 500 students will participate in the event at every center.

Later, as title sponsor, First Security Bank Ltd handed over a cheque of Tk 30-lakh in this regard.
