TANGAIL/MBSTU: Authorities of Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University (MBSTU) on Thursday have closed the residential hall for its female students following the cracks caused by Monday’s (January 4) quake.
Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam Hall for female students will remain closed till January 13.
The university authorities also declared classes and examinations closed till the date following the request of the students.
However, the other residential halls will remain open and administrative activities will continue.
The decisions were made in an emergency meeting chaired by the university’s vice-chancellor Dr Mohammad Alauddin.
On early Monday, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake created some cracks at the hall and left the students panic-stricken.
MBSTU chief engineer Mohammad Abu Taleb told banglanews that they did not find any damage in the structure of the hall.
‘The cracks were created in the non-structural places,’ he added.
He also ruled out any major accident due to the cracks.
According to him, the PM and education minister have also been informed about the matter.
