DHAKA: Teachers of 37 public universities have passed a week of strike and work abstention to press their demands of higher status and salary.
Classes and examinations are also being suspended for the abstention, which started on January 11.
Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Associations (FBUTA) on Sunday morning called a meeting at Dhaka University Shurjo Sen Hall in city to discuss about the matter and find out an acceptable solution.
The public university teachers started protest program as the government gazetted the 8th National Wage structures prohibiting teachers from higher status.
FBUTA president Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said the public university teachers discussed how to keep the higher statues if the government does not install selection grade.
After the meeting a specific proposal was given to the government.
Following the proposal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited the federation leaders at her Ganabhaban residence on Monday afternoon (January 18) to discuss about the crisis.
