DHAKA: Classes at Dhaka University resumed Wednesday (December 20) after more than a week deadlock due to teachers’ work stoppage demanding removal of disparity in pay structure.
The teachers returned to the classes on Wednesday as per decision of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association (FBUTA) to postpone their ongoing indefinite work abstention.
In a visit to Dhaka University, mentionable presence of the students was seen in classes and central library.
Tasnim Mahmud was taking class of first semester of first year of English Department. Around 11:00 am. While talking to banglanews, he said that presence of student at first day is good.
Besides, a good number of students were also seen in TSC, Raju Sculpture, Madhur Canteen area of Dhaka University.
A student organization also brought out a procession with a demand of shifting of Metro Rail route from DU campus.
On Tuesday, FBUTA leaders in a general meeting on Dhaka University campus took the decision to postpone their strike following a successful meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 18.
The teachers of 37 public universities went on an indefinite work abstention from January 11 to press their demand of upgraded salary and status as well.
