DHAKA: After a long awaited period, government has approved direct appointment for the posts of headmaster in 5,000 Primary Schools through Public Service Commission (PSC).

The advertisement for the recruitment test will be published soon, said source of Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MOPME).

Ministry officials have said that among the total of 63,041 primary schools across the country, more than 15,000 posts of the headmaster are currently lying vacant.

Advertisement for recruitment in the vacant posts will be published soon, they added.

According to them, sending the proposal for appointing 4,512 headmasters through PSC is under process.

The ministry sources has further said that in absence of the headmaster, the assistant teachers are discharging duties as acting headmaster and right now more than 20,000 assistant teachers have become eligible for promotion.

MOPME secretary Mohammad Humayun Khalid has told banglanews, ’As many as 65 percent of the vacant posts will be filled up through promotion of assistant teachers while other 35 percent will be through recruitment test’.

The academic activities are being seriously hampered due to absence of the headmasters in the schools. Hence, to find a quick solution, PSC is going to appoint headmasters to fill up the 35 percent vacant second-class non-cadre posts.
