DHAKA: In order to promote education and research on oceanography, the University of Dhaka (DU) and the Third Institute of Oceanography (TIO) of State Oceanic Administration (SOA) of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed at DU Vice-Chancellor’s Office on Sunday (April 24), says a press release, signed by Md. Rafiqul Islam, assistant director of DU Public relations office.
DU Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and TIO Director General Professor Yu Xingguang signed this MoU on behalf of their respective institution.
Chinese Vice-Minister Zhang Hongsheng, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography Prof. Kawser Ahmed, Vice-Director General of First Institute of Oceanography, China Prof. Sun Yongfu, Vice-Director General of Island Research Center Prof. Gao Wen and Representatives from Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh were present here.
According to the MoU, DU and the TIO will jointly conduct research on various environmental issues including oceanography and marine science.
The two academic institutions will also organize seminars, conferences and academic meetings in this regard. Besides, they will conduct joint Masters and PhD programs.
