DHAKA: The higher secondary certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations of May 8 (Sunday) have been shifted to May 9 (Monday) due to 24-hour hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting upholding of death penalty of Motiur Rahman Nizami.
Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Dhaka, chairman Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board chairman AKM Saif Ullah said the Alim examination of May 8 will be held on May 22.
Education ministry deputy secretary Subodh Chandra Dhali told banglanews that all other examinations will be held as per schedule.
As many as 1,218,628 students are taking part in the HSC and equivalent examinations that began on April 3.
Earlier in the day, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has called countrywide 24-hour hartal from 6:00am Sunday, protesting the Supreme Court verdict that upheld death penalty for their party leader Motiur Rahman Nizami.
