99% UCEP students get GPA 5 in SSC vocational exam

DHAKA: So far 99 percent students of Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP)-Bangladesh have achieved GPA 5 in SSC vocational examinations this year.

A total of 307 students from five UCEP Technical Schools at Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet appeared in the SSC (Vocational) Examination of 2016 held under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB).

Of them, 306 are passed and 303 students obtained GPA 5 with 99.67% pass rate (Girls 51.14% and Boys 48.54%) where the national pass rate is 88.29%, said a press release on Wednesday (May 11).

Among around 2,090 technical schools of the country, the UCEP Technical Schools have been securing the top positions for last 4 years SSC Vocational examination under BTEB.

This year the trend of becoming amongst the best in the examination is prevailed from the result published.

Students of UCEP Mirpur Technical School, Dhaka has 100% pass rate and A+; with 100% pass rate all students of A K Khan UCEP Kalurghat Technical School, Chittagong got A+; UCEP Mohsin Khulna Technical School, Khulna has 100% pass rate with 96.56% A+; UCEP Rajshahi Technical School has 98.28% pass rate with 96.56% A+ and UCEP Hafiz Mazumdar Sylhet Technical School, Sylhet has 100% pass rate and A+.

According to the release, all the UCEP students are from marginalized community and most of them have to work for their livelihood.

So, to do the result by competing with other students of the privileged community is undoubtedly inspiring and motivating, the release added.

However, UCEP Bangladesh is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aims to uplift the socio-economic conditions of underprivileged communities through help to learn skills to earn.

Started in 1972, at present, UCEP has operations in 10 districts including Dhaka, Gazipur, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Chittagong, Barishal, Khulna, Bogra, and Sherpur.

Eight UCEP schools have land and infrastructure of its own, district level management, accounting system, and other setups; while in the rest 2 districts, UCEP implements skills training for women in government’s training centers.

Yearly UCEP serve more than 55,000 underprivileged children/youth. In 2015, about 13,000 (38.8% female) completed technical education and being employed.
