JAGHANNATH UNIVERSITY: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the ministers of Education, Home and Planning ministry to work to find solutions to the problems that the students of Jagannath University (JnU) are facing.
JnU unit Chatra League president SM Shariful Islam, also convener of a faction of students who are staging movements demanding dormitories, came up with the disclosure after holding a meeting with home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
The meeting was held on Thursday night (September 1), he added.
BCL central committee president Saifur Rahman Sohag, general secretary SM Zakir Hossain and JnU Chatra League general secretary SM Sirajul Islam were present in the meeting.
Shariful told Banglanews on Friday (September 2), “The home minister said the premier asked him along with education and planning ministers to solve the JnU crises quickly”.
Earlier, JnU vice-chancellor Dr. Mizanur Rahman said that the premier has asked the education minister to submit projects proposals at ECNEC meeting for the development of JnU.
Quoting home minister Shariful also said JnU dormitory project is scheduled to be submitted in the next ECNEC meeting.
Earlier, the students organized tougher movements in 2009, 2011 and 2014 but those did not bring any results for them.
Even after 11 years of establishment, JnU has remained country’s only public university without any dormitory for students.
