DHAKA: Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the construction work of a Jagannath University (JnU) hall will begin in 2017 in Keraniganj, outskirt of the city.
He made the announcement at a meeting with the leaders of JnU Teachers’ Association at the ministry conference room in city Sunday afternoon (September 4).
Education secretary M Sohrab Hossain, association president Kazi Saifuddin and general secretary Nur-e-Alam, among others, were present at the meeting.
The government will also search for land for dormitories in Jhilmil and Purbachal project areas, he added.
The university students started their ongoing movement in last August to press home their demand of residential facilities.
Earlier in 2009, 2011 and 2014, the students organized tougher movements but it did not bring any effective results for them.
Even after 11 years of establishment, JnU has remained only public university in the country without any dormitory.
