HC issues rule on RU graft claim

DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain within four weeks why the Anti-Corruption commission (ACC) should not be directed to investigate the allegation of financial irregularities against four officials of Rajshahi University.

They four officials are Rajshahi University vice chancellor, RU pro-vice chancellor, treasurer and registrar.

Home secretary, ACC chairman, IGP, and VC, Pro-VC, treasurer and registrar of the varsity were made respondents to the rule.

An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued the rule following a writ petition filed by a former student of the university.

The petition was filed on Sunday (March 12) following reports published in several Bangla daily newspapers alleging RU officials involved in corruption while purchasing a land for the university.

Senior lawyer AM Aminuddin moved for the petition while deputy attorney general Mokhlesur Rahman moved for the state in the court.
