DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has accused the incumbent government of destroying the education system like the democracy. She said that all purposes of the education are now violated.
The BNP chief was speaking at a seminar on Saturday (May 13). The party arranged the daylong seminar on “Education System of Bangladesh and Our future” at the Ladies Club in the city.
The seminar began at about 10:00 am and ended in the evening through speech of Khaleda Zia.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir chaired concluding session, while noted journalist Mahfuz Ullah and BNP’s education affairs secretary Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam moderated the daylong seminar.
Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed addressed the inaugural session as the chief guest and inaugurated the seminar.
The seminar was divided into six sessions including the inaugural and the concluding sessions. Several articles were presented in the seminar by the noted educationists.
Dr Mohammad Sirajul Islam and Shah Shamim Ahmed of Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University presented article on primary and secondary education in the inaugural session.
Former Pro-VC of Dhaka University Prof Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, former Dhaka University teacher Mahbub Ullah, Prof Dr Mohammad Sirajul Islam and Dr Siddiqur Rahman Khan of Dhaka University, Prof Dr Dilara Chowdhury and Prof Dr Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman of Jahangirnagar University, Prof Dr Md. Sabir Mostafa and Dr Mohammad Ikbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and several other educationists presented articles in different sessions.
In the inaugural session, the speakers talked for spending minimum five per cent of GDP in education sector for building an educated and developed nation.
They said that the neighboring countries spend five per sent in the education sector, while Bangladesh allocates two per cent in the sector. The BNP has to allocate five per cent in the education sector in future.
