DHAKA: Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain said Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) should no longer be part of SSC and HSC examinations as those are ruining students’ potentials indeed.

He expressed the opinion at a program where he handed over revised versions of six secondary level books at secretariat on Tuesday (Sep 12).

According to the current methods of SSC and HSC examinations, students have to participate in MCQ test at the beginning. The MCQ test has been widely criticized as many have raised allegations of plagiarism in the answering method.

The Education Secretary said, “It is personal opinion that the MCQ section should be omitted from the exams. However, further discussion will be made in this matter.”

“MCQs are the not the creative way but the easiest way to get marks in exams. Some institutions in connivance with teachers are taking the advantage of this method so that students get the full marks by plagiarism. In the exam hall, someone providing with accurate answers and the rest are simply copying it. We have received reports that it going on in exchange of money.”

The secretary further said, “Another problem of the MCQ system is that despite having good marks in the written section of the exams many students have failed as they provided wrong answers.”
