KHULNA: Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) boycotted classes on Monday (September 18), demanding removal of a teacher, accusing him of delivering disparaging remarks on Bangabandhu and the Liberation War.

The protesting students said that Professor Dr Rafizul Islam, provost for Khan Jahan Ali Hall, made a derogatory comment on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at a hall meeting at around 07:00pm Wednesday (September 13).

He also resigned from the post of hall provost, while he was asked about some accounting cost relating to the hall authorization, at the same meeting.

KUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President, Shovon Hossain, spokesperson of the demonstration, told Banglanews that they wanted him to quit from the post of hall provost and as a faculty too.

“Meanwhile, he quit himself as a provost. Students earlier set time to Sunday night (September 17) for expelling him from the university. But it wasn’t done yet. Therefore, we are boycotting class demanding his removal”, said Shovon.

Contacted, KUET Students Welfare Association Director Dr Sobhan didn’t pick phone calls.
