DHAKA: The Ministry of Education issued a directive, asking teachers to raise awareness among students about prevention of early marriage, and violence against women.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) is instructed to take at least one hour of class in each month on the issue.
As per the decision of the 38th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs recommended the matter to the DSHE.
On Tuesday (November 21), the directive, signed by Joint Secretary Salma Jahan of DSHE, has been sent to the Director General of the DSHE to implement it.
The age limit is set to be 21 for men, and 18 for women, in the ordinance.
However, penalty is applicable for not confirming to this age limit. Two ministries are working to prevent early marriages.
