DHAKA: Teachers, who had been on a hunger strike demanding enlistment of their institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme, broke strike at the request of eminent educationists on Wednesday (July 11).

Teachers under the banner of 'Non-MPO Educational Institutions Teachers' and Employees' Federation' had been staging demonstrations for around 17 days.
Meanwhile, a 5-member team, comprising teachers of non-MPO institutions, met Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at the secretariat today.
Nahid told them in a meeting at the ministry that his ministry is working for enlistment of institutions under MPO.
“The maximum institutions will come under MPO. For this reason, 2 committees are working in this regard. The teachers who are affiliated to MPO will be paid salaries from July,” the Education Minister said.
The ministry is working for the wellbeing of teachers from the very beginning. This time, they are also carrying out all activities of MPO scheme. Addressing teacher leaders, he said, “Please, don’t suffer any more.”
In the afternoon, Dr Anisuzzaman, former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury, Liberation War Museum Trustee Ziauddin Tariq Ali, and Dr. Sarwar Ali drank them water.
