DHAKA: The government on Monday finally approved a bill to establish the country’s first aviation and aerospace university to produce more skilled manpower in the field, including pilots, aviation scientists and engineers.
In its last meeting, the cabinet, which chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, gave its nod to the “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University Act.”
Emerging from the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said this kind of university is first ever in the country. Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) has a department of Aerospace. The law is being enacted aimed at extending the aerospace engineering.
An ordinance will be issued regarding the matter the university, named after Father of the National Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be set up at near Purbachal in the capital, he added.
Sources at the education ministry said the institution will be established in cooperation of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) and Civil Aviation & Tourism Ministry.
