DHAKA: The provost of Kuwait Maitree Hall of Dhaka University (DU) has been withdrawn amid rigging allegations in Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) elections Monday (Mar 11).

Prof Mahbuba Nasreen has been appointed as the new provost of the women’s hall after withdrawing Prof Dr Shabnam Jahan.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

An investigation committee has been formed in this regard, he said.

As the polls to Ducsu opened at 8am, students claimed that they have recovered as many as 1,000 precast ballots from Kuwait Maitree Hall.

Students staged protest with the rigged ballot papers and demanded withdrawal of the hall provost and proctor.

However, the balloting will continue till 2pm, without any break.
