DHAKA UNIVERSITY: All the panels except Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have boycotted Monday’s elections to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) after raising allegations of irregularities in the voting.
They are--alliance of Quota reformists, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, leftist student bodies’ alliance Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya, Swadhikar Swatantra Parishad, Independent Alliance, Chhatra Federation and Islami Sashantantra Chhatra Andolan.
Thy also called a strike Tuesday (Mar 12).
Leaders of the panels including Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya’s Liton Nandi made the announcement at a press briefing held at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University (DU), at the noon.
Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council Convener Hasan Al Mamun confirmed Banglanews that the quota reformation activists’ alliance has boycotted the Ducsu polls.
Islami Sashantantra Chhatra Andolan confirmed the boycott by issuing a press release.
Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya leaders said their candidates and activists were chased by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men while they went to visit the polling center at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.
Voting in the polling center installed at Rokeya Hall was postponed amid unrest triggered by attack on VP candidate Nurul Huq Nur and Kuwait Maitree Hall Provost Prof Dr Shabnam Jahan was withdrawn amid allegations that as many as 1,000 precast ballots were found in the hall.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman denied the allegations and said the polls held in fair manner.
However, the elections held from 8am to 2pm Monday (Mar 11).
