DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Supporters and activists of five panels, who boycotted the recently-held Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) elections, staged demonstration on the campus demanding reelections.
The agitating students took a rally to the administrative building after 12pm Monday (Mar 18).
The panels are— Quota reformists’ platform Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, leftist student bodies’ alliance Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya, Swadhikar Swatantra Parishad, Independent Alliance and Chhatra Federation.
“We came to VC sir before and after the elections, with various complaints. Sir told us to file complaints in written format. Sir didn’t pay heed to us we filed complaints though,” said Aroni Semonti Khan, who ran for VP post from Independent Alliance.
“People from the entire country know that vote rigging took place in the Mar 11 elections,” said ARM Asifur Rahman, who vied for GS post.
“The administration is trying to cover-up the elections,” he added.
However, amid the protests, regular classes held in most of the departments Monday.
However, the polls to Ducsu held on Mar 11 was marred by allegations of rigging and irregularities and boycotting.
