BARISHAL: Students of Barishal University staged demonstration following an order from the authorities to close down the campus for indefinite period.
In a notice issued by the varsity authorities at midnight, the students were ordered to vacate the dormitories within 5pm Thursday (March 28).
The unrest erupted on the campus on March 26 (Tuesday) centering a program without the students, marking the Independence and National Day.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the varsity called the protesting students ‘descendents of razakars’ in a program on Tuesday noon, said the students.
On Thursday, the students announced to continue the protest and placed five point demands including apology from the VC with withdrawing the remarks.
They were chanting slogans even demanding resignation of the VC.
Contacted, VC Dr Imamul Huq told Banglanews that the varsity was closed in a bid to avoid untoward incident and return normalcy.
“The matter that triggered protest isn’t something worthy. And here comes no matter to apologize,” he added.
