7 hurt in CU BCL-police clash, shuttle trains halted

CHATTOGRAM: At least seven persons, including a police official, were injured when a group of BCL activists locked in a clash with police at main gate of the Chattogram University.

During the clash, strikers vandalized a vehicle of detective branch (DB) of police.

Injured ---Police Constable Farid, student of Law Department and BCL activist Sadi Murshed, Communication and Journalism Department student Mokles, Department of Anthropology student Ramzan, another BCL man and two pedestrians—were admitted at university medical centre.

The clash erupted at around 11:30am when the protesting faction of BCL activists attacked policemen as they tried to unlock the gate, leaving seven persons injured.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abu Tayab told Banglanews that seven injured in the incident were given treatment here so far. 

CU main gate locked, shuttle train services halted

Earlier in the morning, a group of BCL activists picked up lockmaster of a shuttle train for Chattogram University student halting the train movement heading towards the campus from the port city, said Borhan Uddin, manager of Railway’s Eastern Region. 

They also locked the main gate demanding withdrawal of case filed against them over recent clashes between rival groups of BCL over establishing supremacy on Chittagong University and resignation of CU proctor. 

The protesting BCL men also severed the hosepipe of the train that halted shuttle train movement, causing immense suffering for university-bound students. 

Belal Mohammad Jahangir, officer in charge of Hathazari Police Station, told Banglanews that a constable was injured in the clash. 

The situation is under control now. Additional police have been deployed on the campus, he added.
