DHAKA: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) named a total of 125 persons in the charge-sheet prepared over leaking Dhaka University (DU) entry tests' question papers, after running investigation for around one and a half years.
As many as 87 DU students are among the accused, CID Chief Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam told a press briefing at CID Headquarters in Malibagh here Thursday (May 30).
The charge-sheet will be filed to the court very soon, he said
Of the total accused, 47 have been arrested while the rests are absconding. Of the arrestees, 46 have given confessional statement at the court, he added.
The case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on October 20, 2017 after CID had conducted a drive at two dormitories of DU the previous night.
Two DU students and an applicant were then arrested separately.
The syndicate was active in DU entry tests' question papers leaking in 2015 and 2016.
They supplied applicants answers to questions using digital devices during exam and also leaked questions papers from the printing press, said the CID chief.
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) Assistant Director Alip Kumar Biswas, Ibrahim, Mostofa Kamal, Hafizur Rahman and Tajul Islam are ringleaders of the syndicate, he added.
Apart from the 125, allegations have been received against 55 others. Their names and addresses are being analyzed, said the CID chief.
Investigation officials traced illegal assets and cash money worth around Tk 20 crore belonged to the ringleaders of the syndicate. CID filed a money laundering case against them with Uttara Police Station, added Shafiqul Islam.
