BUET entry tests held

DHAKA: The first-year admission test for the academic session 2019-20 of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was held on Monday (Oct 14).

The admission test started at 9:00am and ended at 12 noon.

A total of 12,161 eligible candidates appeared for the admission test against 1,060 seats. In which 11 students are vying for each seat.

Chairman of the admission test committee and also Dean of Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr Pran Kanai Saha told Banglanews that 16,288 people had applied for admission. After examining it, 12 161 students were selected to participate in the exam.

On the other hand, a five-hour test was held in the architecture department in two phases --from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm.

Mobile phones, smartwatches or any other electronic devices are not allowed in the exam centres while candidates can only bring admit card, pen/pencil and calculators of approved models (details in prospectus) with them.

The result of the examination is expected to publish on November 5.

BUET students decided to relax their ongoing demonstration for two days considering admission test.   

The demonstration, resulted in the wake Abrar Fahad murder, is set to be relaxed on October 13 and 14 as students will flock the campus coming from all over the country. 

Abrar Fahad, aged 21, a student of electrical and electronic engineering department at BUET, was tortured to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 7.
