JU: Jahangirnagar University students took position in front of VC’s residence and continued their demonstration demanding removal of the university vice chancellor since Wednesday (Nov 6) afternoon.
Hundreds of students, including some teachers, arrived there at 5pm and were seen chanting various slogans in favor of their demands.
Meanwhile, around huge number of policemen surrounded the residence of the Vice-Chancellor.
Protesters say the VC has been accused of various irregularities and corruption. Therefore, we have demanded to the authorities concerned to remove her from the post.
They said that in this situation, we are conducting a peaceful sit-in program to make Jahangirnagar University free from corruption. But we are afraid of the police attack on our peaceful program.
Earlier, protesting teachers and students staged a procession in front of the old administrative building of the university at 4:30 pm.
The procession ended in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence and the teachers and students took position there.
Earlier in the day, all residential students of Jahangirnagar University (JB) have been instructed to leave the dormitories by 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
Otherwise, the university administration will be take legal action against students.
The decision came after a meeting of the University Provost Committee on Wednesday (Nov 6) noon.
Earlier, the meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor's residence from 12:30 pm.
Provost Committee President Professor Bashir Ahmed said the residential students were given time till 3:30 pm. Otherwise, further action will be taken. The hall will be emptied.
In this case, the agitators, including the Chhatra League leaders-activists, have to leave the dormitories, he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Authorities closed down Jahangirnagar University for indefinite period in wake of student protests, demanding resignation of its vice chancellor professor Farzana Islam over allegation of corruption.
Students have been instructed to leave the dormitories of the varsity by on Tuesday (Nov 5) afternoon, University registrar Rahima Kaniz told Banglanews.
The authorities decided to declare the university closed indefinitely in an emergency syndicate meeting amid the protest.
At least 35 teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University were injured as some miscreants attacked the protesting students and teachers on that day.
They had confined the VC to her residence since 7:00pm Monday (Nov 4) demanding her resignation over corruption allegation.
