DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday categorically said it is impossible to change the country with traditional education.
“Change in the educational sector is necessary for the radical change of the country. This is why there is no alternative of introducing world class educational system,” he said.
The education minister came up with the observation while addressing a programme marking 20 years of establishment of the Department of Linguistic at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) in Dhaka University (DU) in the morning.
Nahid said, “Prime target of our education policy is to prepare the new generation ... We will be lag behind if we do not initiate the use of modern education, knowledge and technology among the students of new generation.”
He also said a lot of changes have come under the present educational system. The number of students in primary, secondary and university level have increased.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker also mentioned that around 78 lakh in the primary level and 40 lakh of female students in the secondary level were given stipend in 2013.
With DU vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, Pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Sahid Akhter Hussain and education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury.
