DHAKA: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday (June 24) approved a budget of Tk 8,485.12 crore for country’s 46 public universities for 2020-21 fiscal year.
Of the amount, Tk 5454.12 crore will come from revenue budget while rest Tk 3,031 crore from development budget. Revenue budget has been increased by five percent than that of the previous fiscal year.
The commission approved the budget at its 158th full-commission meeting held virtually with UGC Chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah in the chair. UGC member Prof Dr. Muhammed Alamgir placed the budged.
Dhaka University got the highest revenue budget allocation of Tk 830.06 crore.
The UGC, in last year, approved a Tk 8088.49 crore budget for the country’s 45 public universities for the fiscal of 2019-20.
Of the amount, Tk 5,089.46 crore allocated for non-development activities while the remaining Tk 2,999.03 crore for development activities.
In the Wednesday’s meeting, the commission has also taken a decision of writing a letter to the government seeking special allocation for running online classes of the public universities.
