Public varsities can take honours, master's final exams

Public universities of the country will be able to take their honours and masters' final year examinations by keeping the residential halls closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The decision was taken at a virtual meeting presided over by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairperson Prof Kazi Shahidullah on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by UGC members ang 39 vice-chancellors of the country's public universities.

In the meeting, it was decided that public universities can hold the final examinations as per decisions taken by their respective academic councils. 

A set of recommendations on semester final examinations, practical classes and its evaluation process have also been presented by UGC member Dr Muhammad Alamgir during the meeting. 

The meeting also decided to keep other coronavirus pandemic restrictions in place.

All educational institutions of the country remain closed since March 17 in wake of coronavirus pandemic. The closure was extended in several phases till December 19.
