Regular classes for 10th, 12th graders: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Sunday said regular classes would be held for 10th and 12th graders as educational institutions reopen after a lengthy closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, students of other grades would attend only one class in a week, she said.

The minister was addressing the Parliament while three amendment bills were passed by voice vote paving the way to publish the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations by January 28 next.

She informed the Parliament that directives have been given to take preparations for resuming classes by February 4.

"After the reopening of educational institutions, regular classes of only Class 10 and Class 12 will be held," she said.

Dipu Moni also said that it is not possible to maintain the health guidelines properly if students of all grades start to attend class all together.

All educational institutions of the country declared closed on March 18 last year in wake of Covid-19 outbreak. Later that closure was extended till January 30, 2021 in several phases. No classes have been held since that day.

The Jatiya Sangsad today passed three bills- 'Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021', 'Bangladesh Technical Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021' and 'Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021'.

The bills will now be sent to the President for final approval.
