Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of North South University (NSU) recently organized a webinar on “Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education of Bangladesh”.
Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) was present as the Chief Guest of the webinar.
In his speech, he emphasized on the importance of accreditation and discussed the development of Bangladesh National Qualification Framework (BNQF) and its relevance to the accreditation process. He also mentioned that by the 2017 Act, Bangladesh Accreditation Council is mandated to implement the BNQF, which will help higher education institutes to offer quality programs and produce graduates with necessary skills, knowledge and competencies. Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Adhikary, Member, BAC explained the different standards and criteria that will be required for program level accreditation.
Former President of FBCCI, Mr. M.A. Kashem, Founder Chairman & Director, Southeast Bank Ltd. and Honorable Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU was also present as the Special Guest. He discussed how NSU has been constantly striving to become the center of excellence in higher education since its inception. He further appreciated the efforts of BAC for helping the higher education sector of Bangladesh to reach global standards.
The Director of IQAC, Prof. Dr. Nazmun Nahar delivered the welcome address. The webinar was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Atiqul Islam. In his talk, the Vice-Chancellor underscored the importance of understanding accreditation criteria and standards. He also appreciated the effort made by the BAC and expressed NSU’s commitment in fulfilling the guidelines set by the BAC.
Among others were present, IQAC Coordinators, Dr. Muhammad Sabbir Rahman and Dr. Mohammad Sujauddin, the Deans of different schools, and Chairs of different departments. Towards the end of the webinar there was a question answer session whereby all the invited guests participated. The seminar was well attended by notable number of faculty members from various departments of NSU.
