The government is likely to extend the shutdown of all educational institutions due to growing trends of coronavirus infections in the country.

Education Ministry sources said the decision would come up with a day or two in this regard.

Bangladesh is experiencing an alarming rise in coronavirus infections and deaths in the last few weeks.

The country today has confirmed 25 deaths from coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 8,763.

According to the Health authorities, 3,567 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 580,808. This is the highest in a single day since July 2, 2020, almost 8 months ago when the country saw 4,019 cases.

Earlier on February 28, the government decided to reopen the schools and colleges gradually on Mar 30 after a year of shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 17 last year, the government closed all educational institutions aiming to contain the spread of coronavirus. The closure led to cancellation of exams and left academic calendars in disarray.

Bangladesh reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 the same year.
