Educationalist Najma Chowdhury dies of Covid-19

Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University Najma Chowdhury died of Covid-19 at a hospital in the capital on Sunday. She was 79.

Nazma Chowdhury, academic and pioneer in establishing women studies in Bangladesh, breathed her last on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.

Professor Ferdous Hossain, Chairman of Department of Political Science, Dhaka University, confirmed the news.

Her namaz-e -janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr prayers.

Nazma Chowdhury was the founder of the Department of Women and Gender Studies in the university.

She also served as an advisor to the caretaker government in 1996. In 2007, the University Grants Commission awarded her the ‘Rokeya Chair’.

Prof Najma received honorary 'Ekushey Padak' for her outstanding contribution to research in 2008.
