The government has decided to reopen all schools and colleges across the country on September 12 after about one and a half years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moin made the announcement after an inter-ministerial meeting on the issue today (Sep 5).
Earlier, on Aug 26, the government extended the closure of secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions until September 11.
The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020 after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8 and later the closure was extended several times.
Dipu Moni also said that the government has made some instructions to reopen the educational institutions which must be followed.
She said: “This year and next year’s SSC and HSC examinations candidates have to attend classes every day from the day of reopening of the educational institutions. Students of Fifth grade, SSC and HSC will also come to classes every day. Besides, the students of other classes will come to class once a week for the time being.”
The minister said the number of days for taking classes will be increased later by monitoring the situation. If possible, taking classes will be made absolutely normal, Dipu Moni add.
The minister said, “Teacher, student, officer-employee must enter the educational institution wearing a mask. This will be ensured by the concerned institutions."
It is also important to ensure social distance in the classroom, she said, adding the whole situation will be monitored by the ministry.
