Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in the areas of research, innovation and skills development.
MCCI President Nihad Kabir and IUB Vice-Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the IUB Trustee Lounge.
According to the MoU, the purpose of the cooperation includes enabling joint research projects, economic studies, and case-writing; promoting innovation in business management, productivity management, skills development, knowledge development; bridging the gaps and mismatches between industry and academia.
Key objectives of this collaboration is to benchmark best practices for attaining next level of corporate, economic, and social development; complement each others’ efforts in preparing the future generations for leadership in the upcoming era of digital know-how and artificial intelligence; creating a pipeline of high-potential young talents with the right kind of knowledge as well as analytical, problem-solving, and soft skills.
As part of this agreement, an internship program will be established under which MCCI will take in a cohort of at least 10 IUB students every year to do internships at various organizations through the MCCI. These selected students will be designated as the MCCI Fellows.
Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker, Chair of the IUB Board of Trustees, and Anis A. Khan, Senior Vice President of MCCI, were present at the signing program among others.
