Dhaka College authorities postponed all classes and examinations of higher secondary, honours and masters students for Tuesday following violent midnight clashes between the college students and New Market traders.
The decision was informed in a notice on the college's website and Facebook page.
"All classes and examinations of higher secondary and honours-masters programmes scheduled for Tuesday (April 19) have been postponed due to unavoidable reasons. All teachers are requested to be at the college by 10 am," according to the notice.
Several people, including law enforcers, were injured in the clashes that erupted after 12 midnight on Monday between students of the college and the traders of New Market.
Police, however, fired tear gas shells and took the situation under their control.
Traffic on the street came to a halt as both sides set fire to tyres. They also hurled brickbats to each other. A number of shops were vandalised.
