DHAKA: Bengal Shilpalaya will celebrate Bangla New Year with a three-day Baishakhi Utsab on its premises in city’s Dhanmondi area.
The festival, to feature music, recitation and instrumental, will begin at 6:00pm on April 13, also the day of Chaitra Sangkranti.
The first day’s program will begin with the sound of dotara. Faizur Rahman will play this traditional instrument.
It will be followed by Nazrul and raag-based songs by Sushmita Debnath Suchi, Farhana Rahman Kanta, Shahid Kabir Palash, Shimu De and Anindita Chowdhury.
Rajrupa Chowdhury will play sarod at the program.
Eminent folksingers Kiran Chandra Roy and Chandana Majumdar will also perform on the day.
The second day’s program will begin at 10:00am on April 14, the day of Bangla New Year.
Liton and his troupe will play traditional music instruments dhak and dhol at the event.
It will be followed by the presentation of folksongs by Safiul Alam Raza, Halima Parvin, Siddiqur Rahman and Bhajan Baul.
The program will resume at 6:00pm on the day with the sound of traditional flute to be played by Murtaza Kabir Murad.
Sharmila Majumdar, Barsha Majumdar, Supriya Das and Priyanka Das will sing raag-based music at the event, which will also feature recitation by Bhaswar Bandapadhaya
Nahid Sultana, Sumana Rahman and Khuma Khandakar will sing modern Bangla songs and Sharmin Sathi Islam, Sumon Chowdhury, Khairul Anam Shakil, Bulbul Islam and Shama Rahman will sing songs of five poets.
The third day’s program will begin at 6:00pm on April 15, also the concluding day of the festival.
Firoz Khan will play traditional dotara to be followed by recitation of poetry by Hasan Arif.
Aditi Mohsin, Mita Haque, Sadi Mohammad, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya and Iffat Ara Dewan will sing Tagore songs, songs of three poets and also old Bangla songs
One of the top attractions of the festival will be Lalon songs. Eminent Lalon singer Farida Parvin will perform at the event on the day.
