DHAKA: Country’s one of the major playwrights late Selim Al-Deen’s 65th birth anniversary has been celebrated at Jahangirnagar University.
JU vice-chancellor professor Dr Farhana Islam on Monday morning placed floral wreath at the playwright’s grave.
In her speech, the JU VC said that Selim Al-Deen started a social movement through his plays.
Life and works of common people had been reflected in Selim’s works, she added.
According to the VC, Selim Al-Deen spread theatre activities in rural levels by establishing Gram Theatre.
JU department of drama and dramatics and theatre groups including Bangladesh Gram Theatre, Dhaka Theatre, Swapnadal, Desh Bangla Natyadal, Selim Al-Deen Foundation, Bunan Theatre, Taluknagar Theatre and JU Teacher-Student Centre and members of the late playwright attended the celebration program.
Earlier in the morning, drama and dramatics department organized a rally on this occasion.
Selim’s popular play ‘Muntasir’ will be staged at JU’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium Monday evening.
The JU will pay honor to Indian deputy high commissioner Sandip Chakrabarti on this occasion at 7:00pm on August 19. The reception program will follow a theatre show.
