DHAKA: Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh is organising an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by one of Bangladesh’s prominent exponents, Anima Roy, at 6:30pm on August 30 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, House No. 35, Road No 24, Gulshan-1, Dhaka.
Anima Roy was born in Dhaka, and trained under stalwarts like Wahidul Haque and Sanjida Khatun through Chhayanaut and Tagore singer exponents like Mita Huq, Sadi Mohammad and Rezwana Choudhury Bannya.
She stood First Class in MA (Music) in 2002 and M.Phil in 2014 from Dhaka University. She has since been training at Chhayanaut and Surbani Lalita Kala academy.
Roy is a founder of a music and art school ‘Surbihar’. She is now working as a lecturer in the department of Drama and Music in Jagannath University. She is a Grade ‘A’ artist of Tagore songs in the Bangladesh TV and Radio. She is also an enlisted Anchor for the Bangladesh TV.
Anima Roy has performed at almost all of satellite channels of Bangladesh as a Tagore singer and at Tara Music in India on their special program ‘Aj Sokaler Amontrone’ and at ‘Chirontoni’.
She is a member of ‘Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shammilan Parishad’ and ‘Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shangstha’. She is also the Cultural Secretary of Rabindra Academy. She has released five Audio CDs namely ‘Ochena Porodeshi’, ‘Kotha Jao’, ‘Ami Chitrangada’, ‘Icchamoti’ and ‘Robir Alo’ till date.
