DHAKA: Nazrul Sangeet legend Firoza Begum died at Apollo Hospitals in the capital on Tuesday night. She was 84.
Earlier, she was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospitals as her condition deteriorated. She suffered from complications of heart, lungs and kidneys.
She was born on July 28, 1930 in Faridpur.
Firoza started her career in 1940s. In 1942, she recorded her first Islamic song by a Gramophone record company.
She lived in Kolkata from 1954 until she moved to Dhaka in 1967.
In 1956, Firoza married to Kamal Dasgupta. Kamal was a singer, composer and lyricist.
Her sons Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed are also musicians. They are currently the members of rock band Miles.
